how do i turn only 1 layer black and white in photoshop? can i do such a thing? only one layer.
- fusion410
do you mean grayscale or actual black and white?
- unknown0
take whatever's in that layer, open a new window, drag it into the new window, Edit> mode> greyscale
then re-drag it in again.

For actual Black and white us image > adjust > threshold and adjust the piont on the histogram.
For grayscale select
Image > adjust > Channel Mixer.
Check monochrome and adjust the source channel and contrast scales until you see something you like.

that's what i thought prom, but was wondering about other magical tips! =) i have to turn a 100 dollar bill into 2 colors, for a 2 color print. see 100 dollar bill thread!
I finally got a C-note! =)

thanks fusion. let me fudge with these setting dealies.
- fusion410
Sounds like you need
image > mode > duotone.
image needs to be grayscale first though.

magical tip:
select the layer you want to switch to greyscale, then:
layer > new > adjustment layer
type = Hue / Saturation
and check "group with previous layer"
then take the saturation right down in the second dialog.

Thats a good one CAJTBr
You dont kill the original color setting.
You can then add another Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer to fix the color to BW = dull issue

An alternate way, assuming you want two solid colors and no shades or values of each color other than 100%, is to take the layer, paste it into a new document, and then change the mode to Indexed Color with a 2 color palatte and Black and White forced.
Play with the dithering options a bit to see what works out best.

great swollini, did you try to desaturate that layer?
shift+cntrl+U

For a two color job you need to make it duotone as said above. No other way to go about it.
Save as a photoshop EPS.

ctrl + shift + u
instant greyscale
- mitsu0
alt + I + A + D
if my memory serves me correct.
(as of 5.5 - my fav)
- swollini0
that shit was awesome, mitsu! damn! your memory does serve you right! and me too! =)
- unknown0
just hit ctrl-shift-u.
- swollini0
well, you know what... alt + i + a + d is def. cooler, for some weird geeky reason! =)
- unknown0
the consensus is in...
CONTROL SHIFT U!
- swollini0
hahah control shift U just desaturates it, as where alt + i + a + d actually makes it bw.
