On Windows XP.
Does anyone know if you can make it so that when you open up a program it doesn't show up in the taskbar?
Thanks

why would you wanna do that?

Oh, no reason. ;)

You can 'auto-hide' the taskbar, so that it disappears until you mouseover the bottom edge of the screen. Right-click the taskbar> Properties> Check 'Auto-Hide.

Yeah I could do that but that sort of bothers me when I'm trying to get things done.

I don't know...
but, did you know?
You can ctrl+click multiple items in the task bar, then tile them, or cascade them? I thought that was pretty cool when I discovered it...but maybe you all knew that and I'm just slow...

There might be a setting in the TweakUI Power tool (offered from MS) to do this...but I doubt it.
But, you can use the Desktop Manager Power tool to have multiple desktops (like Linux does) so, you could run whatever you wanted to on desktop 1 and the other on desktop 2.
I don't remember if it lists them all in the task bar or not...but it's worth a shot.
Search Google for XP Power tools...

still curious what you're trying to achieve...
do you want to hide an app from a manager that likes to look over shoulders?

mitsu - exactly.
going to search for XP power tools right now.

i can write you a quick power tool to do this, but i don't know if it will work on XP as i'm in win2k here at work.

Thanks for the offer, If it wouldn't take much time and would work for XP I'd say sure but it's not extremely important.
