Why is it...
That every designer i've ever met is a torchured soul or has some serious past skeletons in the closet. Does it have something to do with creativity?
kshhhhh.

some answers can be found in the "negative designers" tread.

PICTURES!

everyone has skeletons in the closet - a murder here, kidnapping there, membership of the high school band - it's not just designers.
- petzi0
CAJTBr: you mean REALLY BAD stuff or just the usual things like "i played the bagpipe for 4 years"

well, I actually have a *real* skeleton in my wardrobe.

creativity and madness are cousins.

Well, I have a skull of a former 2advanced employee I use as a USB-hub...

I've know artists who claim to have serious psychological problems, and should really be in therapy. They refuse to go because they're certain that their inspiration would go with their demons...
- Mal0
True 0o0, that seems to be quite common amogst artists/creatives and medication kills mania. Mania or highd, if you like, are where a lot of great inspiration comes from.
I speak from experience.

Well I'm okay... I'm okay... I'm okay. Did I say I'm okay?

great book on the subject.

I believe that inspiration/ideas may be drawn from madness.
But actual creation comes from clarity of mind.

Now for a serious part:
Im an autistic myself, not as in 'rainman-dustin-hoffman' but in a slightly different way. It is really hard living with that fact. But in an ARtistic way it has been a enormous inspiration and has helped me in my business spirit.Ive been working fulltime since my 13th from the dotcom-boom. My own companies were bankrupt twice, and now i have three studios in Amsterdam, Paris and Barcelona on age 19.
Life isnt really bad after all.
Your are misserable when you let yourself be that way. Out.

"I THINK IN PICTURES. Words are like a second language to me. I translate both spoken and written words into full-color movies, complete with sound, which run like a VCR tape in my head. When somebody speaks to me, his words are instantly translated into pictures. Language-based thinkers often find this phenomenon difficult to understand, but in my job as an equipment designer for the livestock industry, visual thinking is a tremendous advantage. "
