ok, so i got a client that wants their web address typed like so:
i have never seen anyone use uppercase WWW in a web address. does anyone know if this is proper?
i think that it will look a bit odd if i do it as they have it spec'd.
anyone know the proper form?

www
or start a trend...
mmm
...upside down!

according to my (outdated) AP Stylebook and Libel Manual, you would only capitalize when writing out World Wide Web in copy. it doesn't say anything about in an address. Sorry.

All the work I have seen has always been "www". But "WWW" works as well. So I see no harm. Customer satisfction is what matters. Or some crap like that. Let him be the jerk with the WWW.
And while you are at it, punch him in the nose for me.

servers are not case sensitive. so, that works fine. it looks silly as hell, however, and your client is probably an idiot.
- Biofreak0
so are you pretty sure that it should be lower case? that is what i am thinking, but i dont know if there is a legit' way i can explain this.
if it is just personal preference, they will argue with me JUST to be right. these people are so pigheaded. i hate working for them, but i have to.

there is no proper form.
lowercase is the de facto standard.

haha...that made me laugh, kpl...
:)
You said it so seriously...it's just funny.

it's just a smart ass move to me if your cilents demand using "WWW"...
- mayo0
throw a good number of the population off and italicize "Stuff"
:)

oh thanks guys.
yea, this client is a complete dick, so i am gonne eat my comments and just do it like he wants. i wont even mention it to him. bastard.
thanks guys! i appreciate the input! and i am now headed to punch the bastard in the nose for saf!
- jox0
what's their argument / idea of having WWW anyway?
- ok_static0

www and .com don't need to stand out. The domain name is the important thing.
Start saying the name as it implies and yell
"W! W! W!"
and in a softer tone say ... ".whatever.com"
- kpl0
Charge them extra per capital letter. say that usually you can only have lower case letters, but you need some hush money to make it work.
and tell them they don't want to mess with them DNS admins, they're killers.
- Biofreak0
good advice Duck and kpl.
i think that between those answers, i should gain some points. haha.

hang on... you haven't said what is going to be 'WWW' insted of 'www'...
the adress in print, on cards.. on the website itself? the logo...what?
Is it even possible to setup the server so that people will have to type in capital 'WWW' to get to the site? I know it doesn't matter by default...

it is going to be vinyl for vehicle gfx.
simple stuff really. i just put a note on the artwork that said they may want to use lowercase and listed a few reasons that i got from you guys (thanks).
so, no confrontation with asshole client and i can rest easily that i stated my case.
