Anyone ever received one of these tax related forms. It appears (the best I can tell from all of the gov't speak) to be from the IRS at the request of our parent company. They want me to confirm my TIN (taxpayer identification number). Which in most cases is your Social Security number. The weird thing is, the one on the form is not my SS #. You have the option to fill in the right number if it is incorrect.
Just a bit unsettling that it is the wrong number. Our agency was brought out about 2 years ago and this year, the full effect of that is going into full gear. Wondering why either the IRS or the parent company is way off on my TIN. Everything is ok on my W-2's.
Just curious to see if anyone knew anything about these forms or has received something similar due to an acquisition by a bigger holding company. Just for the holding company's records? Or something else?
thanks,

sounds like you've been cloned by a fraudster, better watch, they'll probably be clearing your credit card accounts by now and signeed you up for some more, getting loans and shit.
They may take over your tax record and transfer your ID to another person, you'll have no tax record, your passport number and your driving licence will be avoid to say the least.
act now, they are.

thanks man. I am sure it is ok. It is always a little unnerving when you get a gov't related document in the mail.
It shouldn't be this way but your first reaction is, "What'd I do?"

yeah - I have that guilty conciensce thing too, not sure why ;D
imagine if you worked at the IRS, wouldn't it be wickedly tempting just to send out the odd letter to people on a bad day? Imagine the possibilities hahahah!
