Thats the problem with english, people get sick of a word and decide they need a new one to say the exactly the same thing in order to make themselves feel more creative. I don't think synonyms are that creative. But for arguments sake here is my suggestion -
logos
p.s. apparently english is the only language that has a thesaurus

how about calling it what it really is:
"Making other people rich"

well, not necessarily, cos non-profits can use branding.
but I got one: propaganda
- corin0
phsychological warfare

its called recognition
- unknown0
how about:
global recognition endeavor
Eh?

makes sense bucky, a logo, if designed well and pubbed enough will transend language barriers.

one of my new favorite sites:
because a great mark is nothing if it doesn't have a soul to back it up.
check out the "The Six Universal Attributes Of a Great Mark" in the Issues section of Identityworks. Worth a read if you design logos for a living.

another word for branding...?
well, according to some numbnut clients it's "making it look pretty/classy/professional"
..hey, they're the ones with the marketing people, not me...
