Can anyone tell me the best way to host a website using my computer?

Connect it to the internet...
Turn on 'Personal Web Sharing' or what ever it's called...
Put web stuff in the right folder..done!

It isn't that easy, and even if it were, that solution would open you to be hacked in a second.
You would become another clone server for DDOS.
If you are serious about wanting to run your own server then read up on DNS/BIND, Apache, etc.
Search PV-AN, I and many others have commented on this topic dozens of times.

I will also add that anyone hosting a web server from their PC, by using Windows personal web bullshit is a fool, and someone who obviously doesn't know what they're doing.

For what he asked to do, the first response served as an accurate answer.
The second response proper if you intend to actually do a lot of hosting of various sites or start some time of hosting company.
In additional to the first response, Windows 2000 and XP can install IIS as an additional component and give you greater web hosting abilities. Of course you'd be browsing to the web site via IP address unless you had a static IP and you had some DNS server setup a name record for you.
If it's something you want to do on a larger scale than just a personal test area or something, then as mentioned on the second response.. Pick up some literature on DNS/BIND, IIS/Apache, and start reading.

i hosted my own site for a while about a year ago... it was a little time consuming, but not bad if you have the computer know how (or want to learn!).
i bought a book on Apache (http://apache.org) and went ta' town. Installed a distro of linux on an old comp and was up and running in no time. Easy to do and cheap if you already have a fat internet pipe running into your place.
good luck!

assuming you have a decently fast internet connection ( dsl, cable or higher... ) and assuming that you don't plan on hosting a really havely visited site, you can host the site on pc or mac using Apache, by far the best hosting sollution, which is also free...
also if you have a dynamic ip, go to www.dyndns.org and get a free dynamic host address...
the whole thing works great...i use this to run a test server off my pc at home...
