I have some files that refuse to be emptied from the trash in osx. How do I get rid of them? Do I need to boot in os9?
also, how can I get rid of things that say they cant because the 'belong to root' - basically I want to remove useless shite like screensavers etc.
Any pitfalls to avoid?

get them out of the trash and choose Apple+I (get info) and see if the files are not locked...

well its appleworks I'm trying to trash - though its unlocked it seems that some items within the app itself are locked. ?????

you can either do it from OS9 or use an OSX utility like File Xaminer... or search versiontracker.com for 'force delete' or something...

What i do is get a dummy file like a txt or jpg from somewhere else and rename it to the file I am trying to delete, copy it to where that file is and trash the dummy file. You are probably getting the OSX is working with it file and its not...right?

it says 'starting point is locked' and 'appleworks essentials is locked'
I guess I'll have to reboot in 9
I'll look for some trashing app too.
thanks
