Monster and hotjobs just don't cut it.
Are there any good job sites strictly for web designers,
animators, illustrators. Also is the market in NY this bad
or is it just me?Your thought?

the markets suck everywhere, and the jobs that are available pretty much suck to. And there are 1000 designers trying to get those 3 sucky jobs.
Damn I'm depressed. I hate being stuck in a creative Black Hole.

Initially, I spent an entire day on IM talking over price, hours, the details of the job(s). That was the warning sign, which I realized, but took the chance anyhow. So, we finally agreed on a 2 simple sites in 2 weeks. I finished the first one after 4 solid days (I usually don't like working this fast, but I still wanted to make something nice enough for the portfolio, you know). Anyhow, everyday I'd see him on IM and ask him if his client had seen the initial draft of the site. Lots of excuses, we were losing time. So, I said, let's start the next project. He says, nah, I would like you to make a different page, I have a new client. Then, it just went wrong... From the beginning, it was obvious he didn't have much experience or know-how in relation to project managing sites, etc, so I had to drag EVERYTHING out of him, which was in effect "teaching" someone the ins and outs via a little chat window. (isn't this story boring as hell?) We had like 3 days left in our original plan of 2 weeks, I finally broke down and told him exactly what I thought (in a polite way). "Where are the changes, if any , on the first site? Where are the assets for the second site? Are we still doing this? Etc." He gave no response. More than a week is passed, I haven't seen him on IM and he hasn't t contacted me. So, I just got screwed.

Beemo, that sux, and I felt bad cause I basically burned a bridge with a guy like that. His wife was doing the main design and he was getting in the middle cause he was bored and not working either.
on another note, I have only ONE craigslist story out of all of the emails I've sent to ads. I interviewed with AAA and I got the very distinct impression that the web team manager thought "web admin" meant working full time answering phones track web projects, tutor idiots (requirements gathering/consulting), oh yeah and be a genius at Photoshop, illustrator and Dreamweaver while knowing ASP and PHP.
Only offered high 30's with no guarantee that the position would advance. It pretty bad what they will try to get away with nowadays. I see a lot of intern jobs posted now. Scary.
