Usually I just sit back and read all of your posts. Today I decided to take the first step and join in on all the fun.
How do you all feel about women programmers? Women on this board: do you like your jobs?
My G-friend is taking up programming. She wants to help me she says. Im a programmer and have been for the past 7 years. My G-friend is the best, but programming isnt for her. Shes too uninterested. Shes not dumb, shes just not cut out for it. Programming involves too much thinking. Something that SOME not all women dont do.
Am I overreacting?

female programmers are VER"Y VERY rare..
BUT
there is this IT dept hot girl who is a wicked programmer ....let her try it and if isnt for her than she should decide in a mean while, be a good bf and help her out

I want to. But, she is moving in on me. She wants to do what I do, NOW. She cant, she doesnt have 7 years experience.
She is going to med school right now. She is doing this on the side to help, but shes not.

I've met a bunch of female java programmers... I don't know if it's a java thing or not, but I have seen quite a few.

just tell her that its not that she is NOT GOOD but you want her to concerntrate on her study..
if she really wants to help, tell her to help you on scripting checks.. easier...
or give her some books to read and give her assignment..
think of her as an intern...

drunk alone again..

Thanks for the welcome. I am glad to be here.
I have only met one female programmer, she was an idiot. See, thats the only picture I have in my head. It was a bad experience.

then theres the side of me that thinks that perhaps she REALLY DOES want to learn. and i feel like an idiot bf.

just try to teach her...
i know teaching your gf can be pain in the ass...BUT
she is your gf.. let her think that she is in control... give a little...
med school + programming can make a rich lady
- ********0
like i said..
let her try it see if she likes it...
dont block her way before she puts on her shoes

med school will soon change her mind.

superb advice winky...
but, there is no way i can teach her anything. she doesnt want to learn my way, she wants to learn the right way she says.
because i didnt go to school for programming, she is afraid i may teach her wrong. i think.

give her a C++ book to start with and answer her questions..
let her start with C++ or C or even scripting..
- LastOne0
Your kidding me, RIGHT?
- ********0
if she really wants to learn (she sounds like a smart cookie), she will pick up the book and teach her self...
few of my friends have gone the same path and left cause they realized that its just not for them.
dont waste money on classes cause takes too much time (in conflict with her med school) and too much money...
well many one night class in introduction to programming...i remember my first c++ class, i was so excited that i was getting horny...
- ********0
nope i am not kidding..
me and few of my friends got interested in C++ after picking up simple book called C++ for Dummies.......
- LastOne0
but she cant even get the basics of HTML. are you sure?
- ********0
any dude..
good luck to you..
just get some intorductory books for her.. if she is interested than she will move with it... and you should be there for her to help her when ever... and let her know that you are with her all the way...get some brownie points...
anywho i am too drunk, sleep now.. sun is killing the buzz
- ********0
yeah i am sure.. thats the only way to teach her..
i learned html and javascript previous to c++ and confused the hell out of me...
so let her think in OO process first...come, js and html is not REAL programming.. so let her just dive in to it.. but get the REALLY basic book first
