I am reading about external loading of JPEG images in flash. This is great. But is it possible to load PNG files externally as well? Has anyone done this and is it as simple as changing the extension to .png?
Thanks in advance!!!

I don't thnk it'd possible - your best bet would be to try it and see.

Externally loading a SWF is damn-ass commonplace and the PNG format can very easily be embedded in an SWF file.

Bartleby, I don't think that was what he meant.

I understand that it can be embedded. But that will just make the actual file size of the swf file larger.
External loading is good for flash that works with a database which is the case and the problem I am trying to solve.
But thanks for sharing. I keep hearing commonplace... How is that used and what are the benefits?

CRAAAAAPPP!!!!!!
YOU CAN'T LOAD PNG FILES DYNAMICLY.
THIS IS BULLSHIT!!!!!
WTF!!!!
Why the hell wouldn't you allow users to load png files? why would you do it with only jpeg files?
Does anyone know the answer to this?

Hehe, got a little bit of a temper there, have you?
Jpegs are very simple to include in a Flash file, while png's are not. I guess that's the reason they haven't included the possibility to dynamically include png's. It will probably come on a later stage, though...

They have to leave SOME stuff for the next version of flash. If they made it perfect, then their whole business model would be useless.

arlo... although i see your point. I think it is bullshit.
I doubt the addition to include png's will make or break the ewalks over at macromedia.
They should make an update just for me!!!!
