Passport Problems Galore

I applied for my passport through the mail 6 weeks in advance with the assumption that this was ample time for it to be processed and returned.

    Wrong.

First, the passport office pooched my departure date and had me leaving 2 weeks later than I had stated.

Then, after asking the office to fax my application to the nearest centre for urgent services (which would have resulted in having the passport in my hands in one or two days), they continued to work on my passport and then mailed it out.

But they mailed it to some jerk-water town in British Columbia. Due to Canada Post rules and regulations, my passport had to be returned to Quebec from whence it came. I live in Alberta.

3 consecutive screw-ups by the passport office resulted in the loss of one trip overseas. A loss of just over $2000.

I rebooked a flight for one week past my original date.

My passport finally arrived today. I leave tomorrow.

Never assume the government has a handle on things.

Damn shame, and an expensive hassle. Got my passport in 4 hours in Miami. Viva la Miami.
