Yeah well, some designers can't afford the she-she expensive obnoxious furniture that really is of the same quality.
I've got the 'Expedit' shelves. holds vinyl lps, anything. Most functional piece of furniture I ever bought.

I have that desk . Its a lot bigger than it looks... it holds my 20 inch monitor, laptop, A3 printer and scanner fine, with enoough room for my notebook

not too keen on ikea's desks, i was just there last week to get a bed. not sure about the desks but i've had to reinforce the bed alot. i got a decent desk at Staples for $100. pleanty of room and extra storage. if i had to pick an ikea one, i'd go with:

this little thing makes a killer printer stand. sold as a rock, nice accomodations for cables and power and you can't beat the avocado green.

I've used ikea for my whole office. I feel it's the best made and looking office furniture for it's price, I hate stapels furniture.

i got one of the desks thats a slab of wood you toss legs onto (went with beech/chrome).. $50 for the set
bed frame, shelves, dresser..
in my opinion its all fair quality. it wont last decades i dont think. but its a few steps above most other particle board junk.
product of choice: my magazine rack! forgot the name.

It's pretty big and you can put your desktop on the bottom bit.
Takes a while to set up so it doesn't wobble.

the EXPEDIT wall unit/shelves are definitely the shit! ideal for records and large art books.

The loft bed with the desk thing to go beneath really rocks. It's an awesome little workstation if you want to really utilize space & if you have a place with lots of light.
