One of the most profound moments in my life.
13 years old, full classroom, 1 chair front and center. for 2 hours we had the opportunity to hear stories and converse with a survivor from Aushwitz. At the time, being so young, it really was hard to grasp the scope of what went on. But now, the things that were said by this fragile , old woman...Unspeakable

My neighbor was a baker in the german navy during WWII, He tells stories about being captured by the russians and all kinds of misery. He carries photos in his pocket: himself as a handsome nazi sailor, and his hometown which was leveled in the war and is now a big coal mine ruin.
The older I get, the more recent that war seems.
