thanks. guess I need RIP software to create it.

Nah, if you're on a mac:
http://www.ddap.org/tools/tiff-i…
use that, I don't think there's a pc plugin.

essentially what you are doing is seperating CT Items from Linework.
Pictures from Text.

the Tiff/It checker doesnt like the tiff I "save as" in the tiff/it.p1 format.
the one i got back from the service bureau came back in a folder with 3 files. I dont get it...

one should be line-art, one should be raster-art, and one should be a final with them both merged.
if you send them 1) tiff of the background and such the design.
2) eps/illustrator of the text layout
3) and a final proof with both merged together like they are suppose to be in tiff format.they can figure it out.

my eps files are Illi files, and my copy is layed out in quark. do I need to rip a postcript file from quark to get them all merged and then create the tiff/it file in photoshop?
thanks a lot for your advice by the way

I don't use quark, but you should be able to export as a tiff in quark.
Photoshop tiffs are no good.
