because as far as communication, both sites execute it well.

good design should at the very least transmit the client's image and philosophy.
Lucas arts is in the business of creating cutting edge films and special effects and the site should reflect this.

the lucasfilm site is really poorly designed. it doesn't display correctly on mozilla.
it probably only works in older netscapes and internet explorers.

Good point sp, the most effective creative is not always the prettiest.
In my opinion a presence should have a solid combination of, pleasant graphics, a usable interface, clean code and a clear message.
That is just my opinion, and even though branding and design has rules, it is still rather subjective.
Therefore there is no real answer.
