"float" actionscript.

  I'm trying to write a function that makes an object kinda float around randomly within a certain area (eg 30 pixel sqaure)

  I just can't get my head around it though, any ideas folks?

  here I made a small test FLA that shows you one possible example of floating.

  I don't know if it satisfies you but at least it's a starting point.
