i'm in the position of purchasing an editor at work. everyone tells me that FC is better than premiere, but i'm not sure why... can anyone shed some light on it for me?

there is many many reasons. the main one is that a "soccker mom" can sit down and understad it in no time -- yes, it's that easy! Moreover, unlike Premiere, FCP is great usability wise. Premiere doesn't really compare to FCP. Better comparison would be FCP = Avid Xress DV

plus, FCP is designed exclusively for a G4 running OSX/OS9.2, so it is guaranteed to work at it's highest potential. Premiere has to be designed for a range of computers/processors running different versions of windows.

So, you get more power and useability out of FCP because of it's exclusiveness.

As stated earlier, there is no real way to compare FCP and Premiere. Avid is FCP's competitor as far as HD and telecine formats are concerned.
