My Mac G4 450dual is friggin' noisy....even so it is irritating the hell out of me lately...I think it is worse then before....I do have an extra 80GB HD in it.
Any thoughts? What could be the problem? How to fix it? Are the new gen. G4's silent? or Powerbooks?
I am about to throw this "ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... G4 out of the window....
Grrrrr...
please help?
:(

Know the problem, haven't been able to fix it.. works quite depressing..

you could void any warrenty you might have and replace the fans. they tend to be the biggest contributer to noise.

yes, i thought it would be the fans...are they too old and need new of the same? Or totally different fans?
any links to good info on new fans and stuff?
(when i opened my G4 they seemed pretty dusty as well...could that be part of the cause?)
[thnx so far]

dust definitely can cause your fans to whine. i'm not sure what the options are for replacement fans for macs, though. might want to check http://www.pricewatch.com

a cost effective solution. buy a pair of fuckin headphones and quit cher bitchen.

i just found that one too....a whole site dedicated to this NOISE...that is still killing me...
my current headphones are half working and I need to answer phones and stuff...so I think I'll look into the fans....which seem to be the main cause of my irritation..

Apple deletes G4 owners' postings about noise problems.

I have a friend who keeps his computer in his closet by his desk, keeps the room nice and quiet.

open the box and clean the dust, you won't believe how many dust are in the box especially you're smoker.

yeah the new duals are noisy but I have a dual450 and it sits right next to me and its super quiet... really I barely notice its on.
(1.5GIG memory/2 80GB drives/2 video cards/ pro audio break out box)
__________________________Although I tend to be a clean person- I keep my office very clean and dust free and have cleaned this machine's insides 3 times since I got it. My buddy put his inside a stereo component case with a glass door in front that he bought at Walmart for like 25.00 bucks- cant hear a damn thing-

"2 80GB drives" and zero sound...cuz i guess it could be my added 80 gig.
hmmm...maybe my Mac truly is an ashtray on the inside....

my Ti800 is totally silent unless doing things more stressful than say photoshop/illustrator. And I was using a new mirror drives g4 in the labs the other day, whole room full and it was pretty quiet really

WOOHOO!
this method http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/G4ZON… helped a great deal! Also, if not more helpful, was sucking away tons of dust in and around the fan....
Lots of noise has been reduced now.....to eliminate the last bit I will fix me a box for it to stand in safely and isolated...
