There are a lot of designers now without jobs.
I would ride it out for a while.
If you make a big deal out of it you may become expendable.

"retro-active" my friend. learn that word and use it wisely.

so there is nothing i can do, like ask for compostaion for those paychecks that SHOULD have been +the raise, and well if they did fire me they are in the middle of there quarter

Just because other designers are outta work doesnt mean you dont deserve a raise. Dont ask for your raise, ask for your evaluation. If its a good evaluation, remind them about the raise.

retro-active.
my latest eval was late too... but my raise is retro active through the first of the year.

the last time my evaluation was delayed, HR called me down to let me know they were in the process of "corporate restructuring"...
if that doesn't mean anything to ya, how about the cardboard box that was waiting for me when i got back to my desk. bastiges!

I hate it when you get that raise and it is like $20 a paycheck - then they expect you to work twice as hard because you got a raise

hmm, maybe i'd be better of in freelance, i live in texas, far far west, awayfrom hou, dal, and aus, I think my chances are good, not many firms here, hell i only make 21k, at work is it worth the risk

have you checked out Helen of Troy in El Paso? I used to work for them in 98. they paid well. Email me if your interested. I know the art directors there. very cool place. a lot of package design for revlon, dr scholls, etc...

why not do both for a while, kid_a? see how the freelancing goes before you burn your bridges.
