too many fonts?????

i have windows xp and i have about 1200 fonts in my c:/windows/fonts folder. is that ok? does that make my comp slower? i know i can use atm and stuff but im lazy and if this doesnt cause ne problems then its all good

yeah it slows you down. i dont knkow how much it actually does though. but its taking up RAM to have them all loaded... but, with lots of ram i imagine its not a big deal.

i believe the too many fonts issue was a problem in the 9x windows line and that XP resolved those issues.

actually, even with lots of ram this can be a problem.
one disadvantage to this is trying to load photoshop or illustrator.
your best solution is to use a font manager like ATM light.
this way, your fonts are stored somewhere else and you can turn them on or off when you want.

i checked it out, and yes, xp did solve that issue at the OS level, however photoshop apparently still likes to load all the fonts you have when you run it.
so up that ram if you wanna be lazy :)

i was too busy installing a fresh redhat 8 on my sgi whilst muddeling though some perl for work.
i caught about 10 minutes of the game i think.

not too bad, though i've been unable to find steady full-time work anywhere. i've been doing some freelance for a concert promoter here in jersey, though, so it's gotten me the ins to go to most concerts in the area for free :)
new vena.net coming in the next week or so, though. less portfolio, more photo.

that's cool. i switched jobs about 3 months ago. left corporate development behind for less money and more work.
can't complain, i guess.
