ok, time to put you ppl to the test.
i listen to music through winamp's shoutcast and sometimes i want to record a song while i'm listening to it.
i don't even know how to begin to approach this, so could someone tell me how to do this? special software needed, etc.
i'd prefer the format to be mp3, but i understand it may have to record to one format and then i'll have to convert it later (which i know nothing about either)
thanks in advance!

shoutcast - is that a stream? I dunno if it is possible to record that - Perhaps with RealProducer?

just go download the damn song.
why would you want low quality audio ripped from a ripped track?

because i listen to a lot of rare techno and it's easier to just grab it and several other songs there there, regardless of the quality, then spend half an hour trying to track down each on on IRC.
there has to be a way to do this. and by the way, i'm on a pc, no mac here.

I think the problem is that you're listening to obscure techno...:)

I've done it before. I used SonicFoundry Sound Forge to capture some segments of songs played on ShoutCast. But, like somebody else said it's already compressed to MP3 format, so it won't be great quality if you want to use it for editing.

don't care about the sound quality. all i'm gonna do is pop it in my mp3 player for while i'm coding at work. what version of SF did you use? i have the ver that comes with Acid Pro 2.0.
thanks for the info btw.

you don't "track it down on irc".
kazaa will get you anything.

I use Sound Forge 5.0. I just hit record button and it captures any audio playing on my computer.

yep, jail time included!
actually, i'm sure it's a great prog, but i've been using irc for years and have always had good luck finding stuff so i'd prefer to stick with it.
