what is the best program to take video from a vhs tape? i have never done this before, so any advice you give me id be greatful for.

you'll need to buy a video card so you can capture it in the first place - you usually get some package bundled with that.
Premiere & After Effects for editing and creating though ;)

how do you plan to "take" it form the vhs tape.....firewire?
if so what platform are you on?

When I do that I usually copy it on to MiniDv first using my video camera.
then i get off my camera via firewire

VHS is analog and must be converted to digital (like the MiniDV mentioned) before you can use it on your computer.
Pinnacle makes some good cards and accessories.

i have a video card that is capable i believe. like i said, ive never done this before. it (video card) came w/ an adaptor to connect s-video, composite video, and digital audio. my graphic card is a Gforce 2. i just doing this for fun, but do you think my hardware is capable of handleing this? thanks for all the feedback and advice.

chances are you are going to need a input circuit and you only got "tv-output".

yeah, i think thats what i have too. i have a laptop inspiron 8200, any suggestions of hardware i should get?
