yes 4cY, that is exactly what I mean. My point is, design should be about individual expression, or for clients, it's solving a problem. It should never be about arbitrary appropriation of temporary or popular styles. Push yourself is what I mean, allow your natural style to develop instead of seeking intsant acceptance by defaulting to the "cool" style of the moment. Trust me, you'll be a lot happier too.

ok honestly, you are wasting your breath by targeting this type of animation.
what you are saying applies to EVERY aspect of design. people lern by mimicing others anyway.
good design always prevails, so dont worry about it.

ok, here's the gist: you see it around alot. it's not creative. in the end, so what? You see helvetica around everywhere, doesn't make it any less a typeface. And there is such thing as too much creativity. you decide that hierarchy is too much of a constraint for whatever project you're doing and suddenly whatever you're doing ain't design anymore.
you know why 45 degree arrows got stupid in web design? cos arrows are supposed to point to something, and these arrows pointed to nothing. It's not because they were everywhere. Nobody minds them in subways.
