If you want to do a non -interactive animation you should do one of two things: use a swf exporter like plasma (from discreet) or swift3d plugins for 3dStudio MAX and then import it to Flash. You also can use the Swift3D standalone software (althought i prefer the plugins working in conjuntion with MAX).
ANother thing if you're into interactivity with the model (walk through, rotate, etc....) you should use Director MX's new 3D possibilities. The plasma plugin for MAX also exports not only shockawave version of the model, but also Havok behaviours (collision, etc...).
enjoy.

you can do it with swift 3d, there´s also a swift 3d plug in for lightwave wich allows you to directly export to swift format.
you can also just export a 3ds file from lightwave and import it in swift.
