We could refuse to pay our taxes, except we'd get in shit for it and it wouldn't achieve anything.

"The US Department of Energy announced at the beginning of this month that by 2025, US oil imports will account for perhaps 70 per cent of total US domestic demand. (It was 55 per cent two years ago.) As Michael Renner of the Worldwatch Institute put it bleakly this week, "US oil deposits are increasingly depleted, and many other non-Opec fields are beginning to run dry. The bulk of future supplies will have to come from the Gulf region." No wonder the whole Bush energy policy is based on the increasing consumption of oil. Some 70 per cent of the world's proven oil reserves are in the Middle East. And this forthcoming war isn't about oil?
Take a look at the statistics on the ratio of reserve to oil production – the number of years that reserves of oil will last at current production rates – compiled by Jeremy Rifkin in Hydrogen Economy. In the US, where more than 60 per cent of the recoverable oil has already been produced, the ratio is just 10 years, as it is in Norway. In Canada, it is 8:1. In Iran, it is 53:1, in Saudi Arabia 55:1, in the United Arab Emirates 75:1. In Kuwait, it's 116:1. But in Iraq, it's 526:1. And this forthcoming war isn't about oil?"

i like what you PM said:
"The problem with Iraq is not a problem necessarily of proliferating weapons of mass destruction. It is actually that they may use them."
if this is the case, then yes, the US could in fact counter in a similar fashion. or should we just attack them with BB guns?... slingshots maybe? better yet.. how about lawn darts.

...erm can we stay british please??
no offence but money here is being spent fast on people who have fuck all squared to give back...
....education is failing ...crime is rife.....
why cant we just concentrate on us.....who cares about oil, i'm sure the technology exists to give us the chance to say bugger off to the middle east, keep your oil its not of any use...lets see then if they had a reason to hold the world to ransom and promote terrorism...

yeah.... i know that there are HUGE security issues and it probably couldnt be a reality for a long time but we live in a day and age where the old cunts in parliament are not needed so why not at least TRY to take steps towards this sort of thing?

thanks nairn for the props ;)
it was an idea i thought up a year or so ago - i'm just against the government and how us, as individuals dont have a say in anything our government does.
this would give the individual a voice. people power and all that shit ;)
its a favourite rant of mine if i'm pissed and someone brings up politics.

its a relatively interesting idea, but i agree with dstlb. a majority of the population are not intelligent, educated, well-read individuals like ourselves and do not have the capacity to form an opinion of their own. they would invariably abide by the opinion in the sun or whatever shite tabloid they read. then we'd have a state not controlled by a relatively mediocre government but by the tabloids.
