And I quote from my boss " You know what I think. . . That there are no sites out there buildt with Flash 6" . . . this was said in reguard to the website i buildt my studio. ( Which is involved in Broadcast Motion Graphics)
He's saying this because he had a hard time viewing our site from home. He's not really an interntet guy. I havent had time to rock a plug-in check yet ( hopefully today) . . . .
Anyhow. . . if he feels that there's noone out there using Flash MX ( assumes this because he's never had problems before loading a flash site) are not enough designers redesigning their sites with Flash MX and inadvertantly making the rest of us look bad!!!!
Thoughts?

um tonnes of people are using MX. Just vist mm's site of the day. Check out teknision.com - killer site done in Flash MX. Flash MX offers so much more scripting wise - that using Flash 5 to do hardcore programming is becoming tiredsome.

I just read somewhere recently that v.6 player penetration had reached 70-some percent. check the MM site.

i did my portfolio site in Flash MX but exported in flash5 format (actionscript included), because there were only 37 percent of users with the plugin. But with the new survey it's time to get Flash MX on. All tthe way.

note: every new client site i've did since March was already using FLash MX.

The fact is. There are a grip load of sites out there done in MX just as there is a grip of sites done in HTML, JSP, PHP, CFML, ASP.....
The list goes on and on.
However, I think it is interesting to watch the design community react to impatient non-IT-savy people like your boss.
I know a ton pf kick-ass flash developers who have reverted thier sites back to HTML, just because it was easier that way.personally, I think that if people can't see your site because they are too damn lazy to download the plug-in then they should get on the ball, or get left out.

Flash 6 is at 77% I think, and Flash is at 98%.

Its nice to know that I'm not just stupid.
I dont know if the non internet savy people are lazy or just uneducated. Too bad there arent software updates built into IE or Nutscrape.

no, i think ur boss has a point.
i did a couple of sites in MX a few months back, and after complaints from both of them that people were having problems downloading the player. i had to go and backsave them both to flash 5.
i think they changed the way that the installer is downloaded for MX that caused problems.

i'm waiting till i get a job to export my site as 6, just want to make sure it can be seen. i've found a lot of firms in my area aren't very advanced.

I think the problem with the flash 6 player is if you use Dreamweaver to embed a flash file, with sets the version at 6,0,29,0 - which doesn't exist on the macromedia download.
So be sure to change it to simple 6,0,0,0. This way, it'll automatically selected the most up-to-date player.

I wouldn't require 6,0,0,0 as it has a lot of bugs. If someone has 6,0,0,0 and hits that detect, they'll continue surfing with a shitty plugin. We should do what we can to make them upgrade to *the* most recent version, which for windows is 6,0,65,0 and for OSX 6,0,67,0.
