Flash/Illustrator Question

This is quite odd. I have a bunch of shapes in Illustrator that I want to bring into Flash. In the past, I'd simply export them to .swf format from Illustrator and then import them to the library in flash. What I'd get is a nice .swf graphic object that I could then manipulate.

But now, when I import the .swf, it comes in as seperate new objects with no .swf file at all.

Has anyone experienced this? Is it a settings thing? I've tried exporting to Flash from Illustrator 9 and 10 in grouped and ungrouped format.
