i had an option for creating a flyer (1 format), poster (3 formats) and some ads for newspapers (diff. formats) and some graphics for the web.
it is for a large party on a university and he has sponsors (axe, bacardi, twix, philip morris etc.)
for the first run, he wanted to decide between 3 - 5 different designs.
for a work of a week i billed him
1,461.99 $ for the drafts.
5,847.95 $ for the rest, after he decided.150 hrs of work.
what u think? am i insane?

yes

you managed to work 150 hrs in one week? it's kinda unclear.
- petzi0
it's 44 $ an hour. c'mon, how much you charge an hour, a glass of warm water?
- unknown0
where I work its £250ph
- BonSeff0
how the hell do spend 150 hours on newspaper ads a flyer and 3 poster designs? seems fishy
- petzi0
sorry. one week for the drafts. 150 hrs in total (all services)

I've done entire websites for $5000... maybe I'm insane.
- petzi0
you think?
- petzi0
hmm. seems like we have a little difference here. you guys students?

Your 150hrs worth of work sounds like a days work. How long can it take to do the adds etc...!!??!?!
- BonSeff0
been a print designer for about 7 years now. was there a lot of photo correction envolved? do you have to go to the press checks? i guess with all that involved it would be worth it.
can't hurt to toss the invoice out there right?!

8hrs x 5 days = 40hrs
150 / 40 = 3.75 normal working weeksThat is a very long time to spend designing a flyer, 3 posters and some newspaper ads.
You should agree a price before doing any work, dropping a bill of that size on someone is unlikely to go down very well if they're not expecting it. If they agree to it then cool, go for it, if not you need to cut your hours - a lot.
Not a student, full time freelance graphic designer.

BonSeff:
sorry for the unclearness here.
i was to offer them fullservice. they choose an design and i will work on this base all this things out. they didn' have to care about the whole advertising for their party. and the names of the sponsors and the fact that it is a huge party (10000 people) made me calculate this numbers.
- petzi0
on which facts, you calculate your prices?
- unknown0
this threads boring
- dstlb0
On how long it's expected to take multiplied by my hourly rate.
- petzi0
§:)
delete thread
still curious
- BonSeff0
sounds like you are padding your hours to go along with what you perceive the venue's budget to be. not cool.
- petzi0
excuse me. that's the last thing i do.
- BonSeff0
"and the names of the sponsors and the fact that it is a huge party (10000 people) made me calculate this numbers. "
