does anyone know of a program (mac or pc, but preferably mac) that will perform a search and replace function on filenames in a particular folder/volume?
eg. could search for '01' in filenames and erase it or something like that

Ona PC go to a command prompt and type in:
rename *01.* *02.*
this would rename all files that contain 01 to 02.Another example:
rename *.html *.htm
would rename all html files to htm files

there are file renaming utilities that have been around for a while. Hit up google for a mac one. search "file renaming software"

'A Better File Rename' is one of the best for Mac, but there are a few out there...
For images, it's just as fast to use a cataloguing program like iView Media Pro, so you can see what you are doing better... it has the same sort of batch renaming functions: convert case, incremental, find/replace (recursive too)...
