go with a laptop and if you need more viewing space get a large monitor to go with it.
portable, fast, lightweight, coolness factor of 9, chicks dig em. nuff said.

I wish I had the link to share with you guys, but I've read some article talking about how actually putting the laptop on the lap for guys is not good. It cooks your balls. Could be bullshit, but most cyclists thought their seats would not cause impotence of restrict blood flow to the snausage, too. I like laptops myself (on the desk)

I'd say both.

i once was using my laptop on my lap. like, an hour or so into working while sitting on the couch it started to smell like someone was cooking chicken.
it was just my balls roasting from the lap top. hurt like hell...
... smelled good though.

laptop for your home/personnal computer... bring it at friends houses, outside and use it to meet clients for your freelance jobs.
desktop for office were you have space and need power.

it depends if you wanna use it on your lap or on a desk...

i think you should get a laptop too. and an external monitor is a great idea. my powerbook has been able to take just about anything i've thrown at it from a technical standpoint. (video, high end audio, etc)

if you ever want to just leave one day, sell everything and buy an SUV and a surfboard and travel, a laptop would be an obvious choice...
only if...
