We are looking to buy a high end system to do some video capture and encoding. What would be the best card available in the market today to handle the video capture part?
We don't have much experecience with video production and thus I seek your help.
Thanx

Wada ya mean hi-end? If you go to a specialized broadcast engineers' forum you will be referred to systems that cost millions of euros. I'm assuming you're looking for the more value for the money prosumer stuff.
Any firewire card will do for dv capture. You just need to find the one with the best software bundle. Look for full version of premier. Additionally I would propose investing in logging software. Try something like CatDV. It rocks. If you need analog inputs it will harder to find something cheap, because the components make the difference.

Whatever you do, stay away from ACCOM. Check out www.blackmagic-design.com KonaSD and KonaHD look nice but are kind of pricey. Regardless, BlackMagic offers DeckLink now for $995!

You could always get a sony media converter if you're doing stuff for tv or web. they're not too expensive and they are external with firewire hookup. Not bad for everyday use. Works with final cut or premiere. (or any of the major NLE's i'd assume)
