Kingkezza has a good point, irony does not come off to well in America people assume it's sarcasm but it thrives in the UK.
Ironicaly I'm Scottish and live in NY.

it's ironic that i'm reacting to this thread when i have no idea what passe means and i'm not intellectual.
speaking of irony. great line in the simpsons last night by homer.
the bad detective gets blinded by lisa pointing a laser pointer in his eyes.
he's rolling on the floor covering his eyes and homer says...
'isn't it ironic, he is now blind after living his entire life being able to see.' hillarious.

is that like rain on your wedding day?
or is it more like a free ride when youve already paid?
cuz im thinkin it could be a bit like good advice that i didnt take.
or perhaps these things really are just a series of bummers and THEREIN lies the irony eh? eh? eh?
*at least i crack myself up*

it's ironic that mal said americans have a tendency to mistake irony for sarcasm, when irony is often a type of sarcasm.
it's ironic that americans are seen as being incapable of understanding irony, when shows like seinfeld and the simpson's came out of here, while most british comedies seem split between either having moved past using irony, or having forgotten that it ever existed.
has anyone noticed amazon.com have put segways on the front page? is that ironic? that a retailer who's put many high street book stores out of business is now championing the cause of a machine to help you get to the high street?
no. no, it's not.

There is a bird that barks instead of sings!
The Antpitta avis canis Ridgley is a bird that looks like a stuffed duck on stilts and barks like a dog. The bird was discovered by ornithologist Robert S. Ridgley in the Andes in Ecuador in June 1998. Thirty of these long-legged, black-and-white barking birds were found. It apparently had gone undetected because it lives in remote parts and, of course, doesn't sing. The size of a duck, it is one of the largest birds discovered in the last 50 years.
There also are dogs that do not bark! The basenji, smallish dog with a silky copper coat, does not bark. Instead, it yodels when it get excited. Wild dogs like the African Wild Dog also do not bark.
