yenjoboy: yes, they're going to be cheesy. how tos generally are, especially for things like that. they're going to talk about makeup, lighting setups, getting the best out of your model, etc. none of which i would guess applies to you. you'd be better off just learning photography in general, and figuring out how YOU want to take portraits.
photo.net has a tutorial, it's all very in depth, and yeah it is cheesy, but you could probably learn some things. if you do have any specific questions their forums are excellent.

correction - it's late - "it's all very" = "it's not very"

photographytips.com has a bunch of stuff, amongst it is 'corrective measures for portraits'
http://photographytips.com/page.…
which includes the excellent line
"A long neck is often quite attractive"

im a contributor to photosig. i notice there arent too many pros on there but there definitely is alot of flicks... all levels, lots of people sharing smoke, mirrors and the art of what we do...
also alot of almost porn, much absolute shiznit, alot of pure art, alot of perfect composition, and alot of swollen members. its like a junior NT. for photographers... not as much fun as here though... join... collect your thumbs up and watch your rating points grow! :] picture_pimp
