Just wanted to ask people what there thoughts are on the pressures of being a designer.
I have just turned down an opportunity to work in LA. I have worked there before for sometime and left to protect myself from a nervous breakdown, the pressure was really full on.
I love being creative but the pressure really fucks with me.
I am kind dissappointed in myself for turning this opportunity down but feel I really need to protect myself, and find a lifestyle that suits me.

I'm not gonna sell my soul , compromise myself for a few bucks, I'm gonna live on my terms.
Sounds like you're a sell out.

LOz, your not on your own mate! I really wanna change, I was even thinking of doing something worhwhile like working for a charity. Id just like to do something more rewarding, rather than trying to satisfy corporate suited cunts that know f*ck all about design!!!

I only find the pressure too much when my life is totally focused on my job - focus your thoughts on your after-work social life and enjoy it and work pressure won't feel so bad.
BUild your confidence and rent the movie "Office Space" - take the main characters frame of mind when you walk into work each day :)
ps. There are lots of design jobs out there that arn't all about pressure - look for a job that has a large creative team where you all share the pressures and it won't feel so bad.
