Yes and after I typed my password in, it popped up with that wack dialog box.

did it give you a dialog to type in your password?
first, I'd recommend running the "repair privledges" utility in "disk utility" (OSX 10.2)
you can login as root and install it from there if that doesn't work
if you need to enable the root account, there are instructions on the Apple website.

When I try to install a Epson scanner driver, it says that i have to be" The software to be installed requires Administrator or higher level access privileges" even thou im the only user on this mac.
