You have to change File Associations...
Usually in every image viewer there is an option File Associations. In 99% of the cases it is located in the Preferences or Tools or Edit or View options inside that viewer.
When you select all file types, it automatically forces that viewer to load instead of XP's.
For example:
In ACDSee to do this you go to Tools>File Associations and you check all file types. From that point on when you click on any graphic file type Windows opens ACDSee to view it.There is another thing you can do:
If you want to open a specific file type with let's say ACDSee. When you open Windows Explorer go to the Window menu and pick Tools>Folder Options then click on a File Types tab and find the graphic extension in the list. When you find it you will see a button that says Change. When you click that it will give you a list of installed applications to assign this file format to.Hope this helps.

wish it did...
already tried all those methods...jpegs are still opening in the gay XP viewer...there's gotta be a way to get rid of it

right click on the image file > open with > choose program.
then select acdsee with the "always use the selected program to open this kind of file" checkbox checked. that should do the trick.
