hey, anyone know of answering machines that do it's job silently. I need to have my phone ring like regular.. Then have the machine pickup, play the message, and record, all without hearing it played out on the loud speaker...
Is this feature called something special? I don't want to hear anything but the initial rings on the phone. I don't need to be hearing my GB's callin while I'm gettin it on with one a mah girls. thanks.

i got this cool at&t answering mahcine on ebay a few months back. it has a digital backlit display. for some reason they don't make them anymore and the new ones are ugly. see if you can find it on there. it'll prolly cost you about $20-$30 but it's really nice and worth it!

actually, I heard that the dial on the side of the machine that says "volume" will do the trick. If you turn that down, you wont hear anything. Sounds crazy, I know. But it's Friday and it just might work!

well in the UK, you can have a remote answering machine...
you dial 1571 to pick up your messages

" I heard that the dial on the side of the machine that says "volume" will do the trick"
if the aformentioned machine does in fact have said "volume", then yes, it will do the trick.

yah, problem is the volume only controls from kind of quiet to very loud, doesn't go down to Zero.... like the volume goes from 4 to 15 not 0 to 10, and duct tape over the speakers would make it so it was useless..
