I am getting ready to switch hosts and get my own dedicated server... but i am not familiar with Admin... here's the link to the server specs:
http://www.rackshack.net/english…what i need is someone who is willing to assist in the admin of the server... (minimal work)... in exchange I will give you a reseller package with a Gig of space and much more.
let me know if your interested and familiar with server admin.
thanks

if i had the time, i would...and i don't need or want the space.
it's a dedicated box right? and you won't physically be administrating the box, right? really, there isn't much of a need for a full on admin for your server.
more than likely, your box will have a web based panel that can control the function of the entire system. it's pretty easy to use and you have full root control - like the ability to reboot, install and remove hardware, etc.
the web admin panels i have seen are usually pretty usable and easy to learn...and most of the time there are plenty of knowledge base references or tutorials included.
in the case that you don't get a pre-installed web server admin panel, you can pick up free ones from hotscripts.com or other sites online and install them directly on your server to use.
usually isntallation and configuration requires a decent understanding of linux/unix but it's really not that hard.
since it's your dedicated server you can pretty much do anything you want to it, so if you asked, i'm sure the company would install the panel software for you.

that should have been 'install and remove SOFTWARE', not hardware.

learn linux.

they have Ensim installed...
so, since i have always been on virtual accounts, i am wary of going to dedicated although i know this is what i need to do now.
is learning to admin a unix server fairly easy?

yep
i couldn't say it's hard
but you'll have to spend some time, read one or two books and learn how a box really works, not how WiNd()wZ shows it to you
:)
don't install any gui, do everything in textmode, the best way to learn.
i'd recommand to start with slackware (slackware.com)
... or redhat if you really wanna use that shit.
have fun.

its the upper right package... (refer to 1st post)
it is Redhat/Ensim

It isn't hard to learn, it is a bit overwhelming at times though.
The best thing to do is grab a copy of this book: "Linux Essential Reference" by Ed Petron from New Riders publishing.
It's simply a published version of the man pages, but it's worth it to have all the commands right there in print.
