if youre on a mac..
run a vcr to a digital camera and either record it, or send it to the computer. idvd if youre on a mac.
i dunno. quality is gonna be kinda sketchy anyways.

do all cameras have dv-in and analogue in ? if only ?

I think the best way is to use a card that encodes an anologue signal to mpeg2 but I might be wrong.
I heard about lately even through the usb1.0 hope it helps sorry

like they said, its pretty basic, just find a way to import the video to the computer.
i just saw that sony came up with a dvd recorder so you make a dvd straight from the camera or the vcr.
800 bucks.

tons of them, Sonic Foundry has some good ones, you need to line your VHS machine into your PC though

thats what i figured, just plug in the vcr to computer and record.
i'm just curious about settings like fps, size, etc.
i guess it will do it automatically with most software

you an do a lot with different editors and then clean the final stuff as well

im guessing your on NTSC, so stick with those settings (cant remember res due to being on PAL over here)
29.7 (30) fps

so, i'm assuming you got past getting your vhs on your hd.
Now to get the higest possible quality, go to Kazaa and find yourself some kind of multi-pass encoder. What it does it looks at the frames with low numbers of details and saves the space for the frames with high number of details. By going over the movie num,ber of times it can refine its encodind thus making really high quality video. (then again you start with vhs, so that might not be visible...). Anyway so you encode your project as MPEG-2. Then burn dvd.

running a VCR directly into your PC will only create an image that is very small in size- convert it to digital BEFORE it hits your computer via a camcorder input.

true you might want to filter it like that
