i'm looking into buying a dvdr for work. and in the catalogues it has two types... DVD-R and DVD+R.
so it doesn't matter? i want it to burn DVD's full of data (@ 4.7GB a pop) will either do this?
i feel like i must still be missing something.

Yeah, there is a difference. What exactly it is, I am not sure. I do know that it is a manufacturers thing and it is very important. Here's the compatibility with home units (Pioneer study from PCMag, Nov. 2002):
DVD-R: 78%
DVD+R: 78%
DVD-RW: 58%
DVD+RW: 63%If you are looking to buy one, go with Sony's new one that burns in all formats (no other manuf. does that). So, you see, nothing is completely compatible with home players.

Some burners burn DVD-R and some burn DVD+R. For example if you have an Apple they only burn DVD-R. There isn't one standard yet so make sure the kind of DVD's you buy match your burner.
Also blank DVD's in general are a little scetchy. We do DVD creation at work and all I have to say is buy name brand. We've had to send entire batches of cheap DVD's back because of errors. Check and double check after burning.

hey eps hows the business forthat? ... I had started a project for a big trailer compagny here but there were technical problems that I could'nt solve (I was only an intern) and they never really wanted to pay the for the project. So u do this via ur compagny? what kind of projects are those? u use dvd studio pro? do you need some freelance help? :-)

when did this get so confusing... did cd's go through the same issues?
DVD-R is what apple uses, so that must be the best... right?
is sony the only one that does this? any others?

the sony dvd-r/dvd+r writer was discontinued... any alternatives?
- mbr0
Doesn't look discontinued. They sell it at a bunch of places and does seem to be the best.
