I'm getting one of these babies if its compatible with this: ;)

does this come with a G4 chip in it? looks like a TiBook Advance.

i'd rather just wait for the SP then mess with the AB kit. I don't have a souldering iron, and I just know I will mess something up.
since it's the same internal hardware, i'm sure it works with the flash linkers.

i would like one of these, but i'm wondering if it works with my Flash Advance Linker. because if it can't play my copies ^H^H^H^H^H backups then it's no good to me...

good lookin out on the idea of getting an extra film....

thanks for the tips and info mitsu! it sounds like it may be worth the effort.

it took me about 20-30 minutes, not including the time it took to carve out the hole to fit the backlight itself.
the hard part is applying the AR film without getting bubbles or dust in it. it's also hard to keep dust from getting on the backlight itself. Even the tiniest piece of dust shows up easily when the backlight is turned on.
the results may vary, but after my installation, my only gripe was the slight wash of the colors. it was almost as if the light was too bright. if i had the time, i probably would have installed the turn switch which would allow you to adjust the brightness. at any rate, it was a fun project.
JUST REMEMBER, if you do get this kit, purchase extra AR film!!! you'll probably screw it up the first time you try to apply it. Also get a can of compressed air for the dust.
the afterburner site forums are a perfect place to get feedback from others on techniques/ stories/ etc.

don't you know it's loco?

are the afterburner kits hard to install? i watched the development of that mod closely but was afraid to break my gba.
- sibhod0
frontlit looks just as nice as backlit, and at a fraction of the power.
the afterburner kits are frontlit too, and they look great.

rechargeable sounds dope too.

"The unit, called the Game Boy Advance SP, will be a foldable version of the GBA that, most importantly, features a front-lit LCD screen that can be turned on and off during play."
- jumpman440
it's not actually backlit...it's frontlit

i have to admit though, i've never been crazy about things that flip... my favorite pocket design is the old gameboy pocket. it was the perfect size and it had a very thin profile. oh well. at least it's backlit now.

The L and R buttons look a little tough to handle... otherwise, sweet. They listened to all those crazy kids telling them they couldn't see their screens.
If I'm gonna buy a portable system, this looks pretty good..
- kerus0
really nice looking!
but i think im all set with my old GBA! its hard enough for me to hold that thing as it is, nevermind one 1/2 the size

i lost all love for nintendo after i bought the advance. i even took it back to the store thinking there was something wrong with it.
it amazes me that they would release it without a back light (the 1st advance).

i just went and bought an afterburner kit and installed it in my gba... works like a champ.... but now with these... i think i gotta have one. black please!
