I remember reading that George Lucas had said that ILM was the only company big enough to take on the SFX required for such a trilogy as LOTR.
I just saw the Two Towers and i have to say that Gollum made Jar Jar Binks look utter shit. For a company not that big, I think Weta did a really good job.

Weta might have been small the days when "all" they did was physical models for braindead... but seriously, they hired loads of talanted people for the LOTR trilogy, my fave among the digital peeps being Bay Raitt... Talented guy.
I agree on the Gollum vs. Jar Jar issue, but I noticed a slight mistake in the two towers.... at one point a strand of hair was intersecting oddly with his body... slipping inside his body and then out. It was extremely annoying. Anyone else saw it?

i have a question about SFX.
why is it that whenever a metal gate, lockbox, locker, fence, etc. is opened in a movie, everyone uses the SAME sound effect for it -- and even more than once in the same movie!?
you can rent two action movies in one night and be sure to hear that dreaded noise without fail!

Do you know good magazines or web sites about video effects
