i just came across a wierd bug in flash, my .fla size is 2 megs, but when i import an mp3 thats only 2.5 megs, my .fla size becomes about 80 megs..... WTF??? anyone come across this by the way the swf size is fine, just not the .fla, one might say who cares, but i have to have about 100 of these suckin files on my hard drive, and im afraid i have beter uses for my hard drive..

oh yeah, and everytime i change the output format for the sound in the library, its makes the file size get even bigger, ex: from default to mp3, the fla will gain about 10 megs, when i undo it, the fla retains its size..

Two questions:
1. Why are you importing Mp3s into FLA document anyways? It's clearly said that the best way is to load mp3s externally as streaming or loaded sound.
2. Are you sure you are using the retail version of Flash?
Cheers.

your mp3 is probably being decompresed to a wav file, which makes no sense cause i dont think its going to improve any of the quality, and also i doubt it cause a wav should only be about 40 megs for a 3 or 4 minutes song.
and as they said, keep the mp3 format for external sounds only, import wavs better.

No one wants to work with compressed files live . . .
Flash does this for all media types
JPEGS too
it doesnt compress em until you export it
Otherwise - you have Flash uncompressing stuff every two seconds when you want to change it. Sloooooowwwwwww.
Trust me - it's better this way
Storage is cheap.
Your time is not.

1.loading mp3s externally as streaming or loaded sound is a good way, but limits you in other ways to do other things, there are other ways you might want to look into that give you more options.2.yup its a retail ver,
