I am a mac user I am buying a PC for my fathers home for use really by my 11 yr. old sister, this is what I am thinking of purchasing

with the dvd burner it comes to 850 is this reasonable?

yea. might wanna stick a zip drive in that baby, but you can always get an external one later.
i'd say that is not bad. your sister isnt a graphic designer at the age of 11, so... bickety bam. looks good.

no kidding, i didn't get my first computer (a non-working commadore 64) until i was like 16... and by then the computer was already 10 years out of date!

Dell stuff is good for the novice, they set the harware up pretty well to make it not require too much tweaking - unlike backyard bob that throws any old config together.

I am big fan of Dell (but my previous Gateway and Micron were pretty flawless, as well).
I'd like to add that their professional systems are great, too. I've got a PIII 933 and a Xeon 2.2, both have been great.
The trinitron monitors are awesome, esp. for the money.

since worked at dell years ago and used their workstations i got a couple for the home. but now i would build my own boxes. just easier to upgrade without having to buy propietary processors which are 2xs as expensive as aftermarket.
