I read newsgroups. Hundreds of thousands of people do. In fact, there are probably more people "on" Usenet today than ever before.
That being said, Usenet is less popular than the Web because it takes an extra step or two to access newsgroups (finding/deciding on a news reader, entering your news server info, searching for newsgroups, etc.) than it does to click an Internet Explorer shortcut on the desktop and click away or type something into the address bar. Also, of course, newsgroups are less "exciting" than Web pages (no images or audio except in binaries groups, etc.).

Just to clarify - I'm not arguing in favor of PBS spamming, I just don't perceive it as something to really get worked up about.
If it really becomes a problem, then I expect that the NTD folks will ask M.Buzzard to make repetitive posting of similar content more difficult.
It's does seem *that* bad yet.

if spam wasn't a problem, there wouldn't be so many moderated groups on usenet. and yeah usenet isn't dead yet, I'm exaggerating, but it's not where it was 5 years ago. there are plenty of dead groups out there, killed by spam, like alt.sex.

well...
sex + internet equals spam.
simple formula.

Car insurance + Internet = SPAM

Mono! - I didn't start this thread because I thought that spamming of the PBS is a major problem. It is just a slight annoyance at the moment but has noticably increased recently.

guys, please complain less, not only so that you'll live longer but also beacaue they might introduce some kind of system constraining even more our "freedom of speach".
- kpl0
complain less for the sake of freedom of speech? hmm...
- paulsmith0
hehhe :-)
- pr20
"complain less for the sake of freedom of speech?"
yes, unfortunately that's how it works here.

yeah, i have noticed the looplounge links.
that guy links that site too much.the pbs is supposed to be there for us to link stuff we find that we think is worth linking so that priviledge isnt reserve for the few people on the ntb, k10, dik and surfstation, cause the rest of the designers also find good links.
if you update your site or have something new or something, you can go link it up.
but linking the same thing over and over is anoying.
is like that guy from monster templates that would spam here big time, now i find him on other messageboards posting as if he is a student saying another student riped x site and his other business site, providing a link to the business site and not to the other site.
people think the world doesnt notice spam? that brings the level and reputation of your business or site down everytime you try to force people to visit it.

Do a search on author in PBS, author name: oops
Check the dates on the posts...
I remember this guy got banned,
that is how it works. (and should work)
- kodap0
judging by my number of posts, I'd be banned about 18 times if i did the same...... lol
- surfito0
damn, DrSoftSynth, all he has provided to this site since nov25 is links to his site, nothing else.
doesnt even stop by the pv-an, not even to complain about arrows and 2advanced or to say wasup.

Ack! I admit that I just broke down and did spam yesterday. But it was just once. And I did it because I was disapointed that I got 0 hits on the 26th. :)
- paulsmith0
Redmond you did not spam. I'm all for posting a link your site if you have made a significant updated or have never let people know of your site.
I personally get miffed by the obvious repeat posters or "spammers".

I have noticed that Fatchen idiot doing it all the time as well. It does more harm than good though i think as I know at least I personally will not ever buy a tshirt from them because of their spamming. and I'm sure I'm not the only one. It makes you lose all respect for them and their products/sites.
