On my old computer i was able to run 3ds with opengl. (nvidea gforce3 and now i have a new comp with a ati radeon 9700 tx and 3ds doesn't open up.
Does anyone know why this might be and how I can fix it.
P.S i am on XP
Thank you

does it give you an error?

It loads everything and then when the program is supposed to open up it just doesn't.
It's like i never opened it. But if i change it to direct3d it works

you need to update CDILLA
- unknown0
I did otherwise i wouldn't be able to install 3ds

yeah thanks..... It's just funny because the same copy of 3ds works on the old shittier system and not on the new good one.

i doubt this would have anything to do with it, but did you recently upgrade to the new DirectX 9? i'm thinking there might be a conflict, but i doubt it would cause a problem in this case...

i think i might have directx9 is there any way of checking it and if i do have it is there any way of getting rid of it? and installing directx 8?
- vena0
according to microsoft, directx 9 cannot be uninstalled unless you created a system restore point before installing the module...
- unknown0
ohh well that's great......
Can you tell me in your opinion what is better .....
OpenGL or Direct3D and what is the main differance.
- vena0
that'd be a long post :)
personally, i like OpenGL since it has a wider support base and is easier to use. Direct3D is much more capable, but it's a closed product only supported on windows platforms.

Basically, with 9700 i would prefer directx over open gl.
Those cards do not have a well implemented open gl driver, and thats one of the reasons, normal 4600s are hell of a lot faster in 3dMax.
As of the directx9 issue, ... man its not even an RC1 you should read about before doing such an upgrade. Choices are either you wait for an .1 or you reinstall everything :)

Sumatra I don't know what you're talking about DirectX 9...
but for all of you guys who use ATI 9700 Radeon...here it is:DirectX 9 final version:

I honestly can't believe that you'd install direct X nine without evern reading that it couldn't be uninstalled unless you're on the two worst winXX operating systems ever made and make an awful system restore point.

Yeah right, do as Boz said.., During downloading read this: http://www.theinquirer.net/?arti… .
Besides that, remember one thing:
Many apps & games are optimized specifically for various DX versions, using a newer version can cause incompatibility issues, as well as actually reducing performance.Cheers

I installed DX9 and it works fine. It even solved some application problems that I had with DX8.
Btw, I have ATI card in my machine.
Cheers.
