Yeah, that BBC vote seems a little skewed towards the British Foster. Perhaps it's that British BBC audience? I'd like to see a less-biased poll.

hehe...prolly yes.
If it was a Dutch Poll it would all be UnitedArchitects fans.....
( with Ben van Berkel from UN Studio )

I agree with Roman.
The Meier design (#) is the best. It mimics the grid of the city. It references the rectilinear nature of the old towers...
plus check out the (floating) park that is in the shape of the old towers' shadows.

Everyone I've talked to loathes the Meier design. Can you say "prison cell"? It's blocky and overbearing. There's nothing complimentary about it.
- Geith0
At least they left out Frank Gehry, thank god! It would have been a giant silver clusterf*ck of billowing tissue paper.

I wonder what Rem Koolhaas would have proposed....
Prada like??

"everbody says _____"
good reason to like something."everybody" hated the twin towers when they originally were designed.
I've never seen anything like the Meier building before, and it blew me away. My second favorite is the Think proposal followed by the United Architect's design.

they all suck

Meier = Fortress America
Not very keen on any of them but particulary disliking that one.

prefer meier and peterson.
But what happens now - is that it?
Honestly I think none of them will be built and it will drag on forever....
- mbr0
No, none will be built. It is now in the hands of the developers and the owners and the LMDC. So basically we can all look back at the banal first set of schemes and see another spec office building go up.
Oh, nobody liked the wtc when it was built, and no one liked it before it was destroyed.
It was an icon, for sure, but as for architecture, it was never good. Not to mention it was poorly planned and caused congestion problems.
At least all of the schemes (including the first 6) addressed those issues.
I just pray that they have an open competition for the memorial portion of the design...that'd be a great opportunity and maybe we'd get something interesting.

didn't think any of em were all that great..
and a few were downright lousythat being said, i just saw transfatty's link to syd meads concept (thanks fatty)
wow...
without question, his idea is perfect.
in my opinion anyways...
then again, i'm biased
im a big fan of syds...ever since his work on bladerunner

I like the foster one...
more for the footprint thing than anything else

mbr:
i disagree about the twin towers never being good architecture. i think the originals were great...always have. i wasn't born when they were going up, and i know a lot of people hated them, but i loved them from the moment i first saw them. very direct, powerful, and straightforward architecture. a lot of beauty in those 2 minimal, monolithic towers.
- kastsystem0
and i know it's not a very popular opinion, but i really think the Meier building is way ahead of its time. I feel like it is the only one that really captures the powerful nature of the original twin towers. Yet it transcends the original by unifying the buildings and framing the beautiful memorial square below. Even if you hate the building, you have to admit the ground memorial is appropriate: The parks which are in the shape of the shadows of the towers at the time they fell, originating from the reflecting pool footprints of the twin towers.
Simply put, there is nothing corny about the Meier building, which cannot be said about some of the other buildings, including the Foster building (which I also happen to like, so don't jump all over me for my criticism of it).

i have to agree with clone. they all do suck.
- mrdobolina0
they should have cesar pelli or calatrava design it.
- Geith0
now you're talkin', dobolina
- Geith0
What's the Mead link, Ex? I'd love to see that one.
