I concede that it wasn't an entirely brilliant title, and yes - I am on the internet right now .. and spend a lot of time online otherwise - but I meant in the sphere of my productivity ..er.. with what I do - it's just so... pointless.
thankyou (from the very bottom of my heart) for adding something useful..

this.. almost makes it all worthwhile (heisted from the _randomise me thread): http://www.heavenlyimages.com/in…

It has always been my dream to become a rodeo clown.

you've just got to be thankful you dont work in a call centre.
As capitalism is based upon disjointing the produced item from those that produced it one can never feel satisfied, this is the paradox. We produce, produce, produce, and we consume, consume, consume. We judge ourselves and each other on what we do and what we wear, and thus we deny our humanity and our existence within society, we are at war with ourselves and our need to 'succeed', a success which is based upon the faceless products we work to buy, a success which makes us look down upon the people that produce those products, a success that keeps us in the system we complain of and thus maintain the heirarchy that is so perfectly disguised as being stable. Your anguish continues and you anaesthetise it with materialism. The vicious circle.

what scares me the most is everything we do, be it code design ,illustrate, model, etc. could all be taken from us in an instant. hard drives crash . lil' sisters butting magnets on the comp, old outdated shit, stupid people using cds as coasters. all of our effort could vanish with a keystroke. it's neveracking and is anything really being produced? i definately feel what you're saying.

I think the net is a great tool for getting quick info. You jsut have to find it and someoen has to put it there.

whew! bio signing back in for the 10 minute countdown before my bedtime. i am painfully sober, so this will be awkward
Nairn, oddly enough i grew up on an isolated farm.
when i go home now, i look forward to bruising my body and blistering my hands with an axe/splitter, getting wood for my father and grandfather.
i love my family home and the peace of the outdoors. it is the best vacation i can have. but when i get back to the city, the first thing i do is sit at my computer and marvel at just how useful the internet really is.
it sucks building site structures, coding, et cetera, but man... this is the best thing thechnology has to offer... except i bought an egg slicer once for a dollar. that thing kicks ass. it slices an egg with little wires.

so what if everything you do is on a bubble? as long as you're paid in cold, hard cash...a solid return on your work, cash that's hard, green, paper, paper that actually is not worth the amount it say it is, which is only worth it cos the goverment says it is, which means its nothing without the government...
...
Ok screw cash, you got money in your account! A FDIC ensured account with assets digitally stored in some computer memory bank, which could get erased, or hacked, taken away from you without you ever knowing...
you know, forget it, we are all dealing with 1's & 0's in the end, we're all screwed.

I was feeling just about the same until recently, then I hit on something that is at once very depressing and very liberating. I just started removing all the shit that I don't actually need. Now I have no internet at home, no TV, no radio, no DVD, no carpets (although that one wasn't entirely deliberate).
It's kind of a Bruce Lee meets Classic Greek philosophy meets Tyler Durden kind've thing.Incidentally, since I started doing this, I've written an album of (i think ) decent stuff, become much better read, started making decent images again with my camera. All in all, a real creative Copernican revolution.
The downside is that you begin to realise just how little of the stuff you surround yourself with is necessary, and subsequently you begin to struggle to see the point.
The weirdest thing is admitting that you don't need the stuff you don't need, and then throwing it out.
Anyway, I have a meeting.
Cheers

Nairn. That link makes you realise the sheer shite you can sell on the web. Making $'s is always a good thing. Designing or selling.
You're just going through a phase I think. Ive been there. In the grand massive scheme of things, no, you are not making any difference to the world. In the less important scheme, maybe a little.
