I've just been reading the Guardian article about Wittgenstein and his pure house. ('house for the gods'). However, I take issue with the NTB posters' last paragraph.

Stuka, you seem to assume that modernism is the resolution and the completion of an individuals artistic and philosophical development. The point at which you seem some sort of truth that has transcended the enjoyment of decoration. And shows decoration to be somehow foolish and idiotic? Why do you think this? Am I the only one who doesn't agree?

I was rather hoping to launch an animated discussion about the hierarchy of design ideals. But I guess no one's interested.

As far as i understand it - the big debates about design ethic have always been locked in the struggle between form & function
and we resolve it depending on purpose/audience etc
Modernism is an ideal which is supposed to be a universal philosophy but is approached differently by each discipline - since in practice we don't apply the same principles in "modernist design" as we do in "modernist art"
